Your role as your child's first and important educator is highly valued here and your input into the running of the nursery is very important to us. We actively seek this through our parents evening, questionnaires, and other events.
We use the Tapestry system to record observations and to take photos and videos of the children. Each parent then has a unique code so that you can access your child's journal at anytime and see their progress, observations that have been added and any photos that have been uploaded of them. This is a completely secure system as and we have had very positive feedback from our existing parents about it.
When children start at Well Place, they are introduced to nursery life gradually through several pre-start visits. The first visits will last for approximately thirty minutes and you are asked to stay for the duration of the visit. This allows your child to become familiar with their new surroundings and means you can spend time getting to know their Key Worker.. The second visit will also be short but we invite you to leave the room so that your child can spend some time on a one to one basis with their Key Person. The visits are then gradually lengthened until both you and your child’s Key Person feel confident that they are settled. We find that children generally settle quickly in our caring and nurturing environment.
We hold our Parents’ Evenings twice a year, usually in January and June. If you are unable to attend you can choose an alternative time to suit you and your family. During the evening you can book an appointment to see your child's Key Worker to discuss your child's development and progress. Your Key Worker will also talk about what we will be setting as the ' Next steps' for the coming months. You will also receive your child's assessment record and, if they are transferring to school, their Record of Transfer.
Throughout the year we hold Parent Workshops. These take place in the evening and focus on subjects such as weaning, potty training or school transitions. We will give short presentation and ' Top Tips' on the subject and will often have outside guest speakers. The workshops offer you a chance to discuss any worries or offer advice and are a great way of getting to know other parents.
Newsletters are sent out via email at the start of each term. They contain general news about the nursery and upcoming events. Individual room news gives you an idea of some of the activities that the children have been enjoying as well as giving you an idea of what we have planned for the future. We also share news about staff and their achievements and village events.
The whole nursery joins together for several events over the year. Our Sports Day and Family picnic takes place in June with many races including Egg and Spoon, Obstacle and of course the Parents Races! After the races have been run and medals given you are able to stay and enjoy a family picnic and refreshments in the nursery Grassy Area or the garden.
The most emotional event of the year is always the Preschool Graduation. As our children move onto school we mark the occasion and celebrate their time with us with a short ceremony and tea party. As some of our children have been with us since the baby room this is always an emotional event and tissues are highly recommended!
Our Nativity Play, Christmas parties and Songs around the Christmas Tree are always great fun with Preschool children taking part in the Nativity and our younger children sharing their favourite songs with you around our Christmas Tree. All children then enjoy a Christmas Party and visit from you know who!
We are involved in the two major Penshurst Village summer events namely the Great Penshurst Duck Race and the Village Fete. At both events we can found running children's stalls and face painting. These village events always have a lovely feel to them and we are proud of our long and close association with them.
